Iron oxide pigment is a kind of pigment with good dispersibility, excellent light resistance and weather resistance. Iron oxide pigment mainly refers to iron oxide as basic material of iron oxide red, iron yellow, iron black and brown four kinds of pigments, which is given priority to with iron oxide red (about 50% of the iron oxide pigments). Iron oxide is the second largest inorganic pigment after titanium white and the first largest color inorganic pigment.In the total consumption of iron oxide pigments, more than 70% are prepared by chemical synthesis method, which is called synthetic iron oxide.Synthetic iron oxide as the synthesis of high purity, uniform particle size, and the chromatography is extensive, color more, inexpensive, non-toxic, have excellent coloring and application performance, has the properties such as absorb ultraviolet light, and therefore is widely used in building materials, coatings, plastics, electronics, tobacco, medicine, rubber, ceramics, paper, printing ink, magnetic materials, etc.
Iron oxide red ( Fe2O3.αH2O ). It is the most stable compound in iron oxides. It has good heat resistance and does not change color at 500℃. The chemical structure does not change at 1200℃ and is extremely stable. It can absorb the ultraviolet spectrum of sunlight, so it is protective for the coating. At meanwhile, it is has the character of Dilute acid resistance, alkali resistance, water resistance, and solvent resistance, so the iron oxide pigment has the good weather resistance. The particle size of iron oxide red was 0.2μm and with yellow phase, Surface area, oil absorption capacity is also large, as granularity increases, the hue moves from red to purple. As the particles getting larger, the relevant models for iron oxide red is 110, 101, 120, 130H, 130S, 130R , 130A , 190 and 180.
